WAGGGS provides a dynamic, flexible, values-based non-formal education
programme, which is used by our Member Organisations to enable girls
and young women to become self-motivated, responsible, supportive
and active citizens, to develop leadership and life skills so they
can participate in their local communities and all areas of society.
The Europe Region WAGGGS supports its Members by helping them develop
programmes and training, organising seminars and workshops, and
working with them through visits and other contacts to develop Girl
Guiding/Girl Scouting in their own countries and to fulfil WAGGGS
mission:
to enable girls and young women to develop their fullest
potential as responsible citizens of the world.
Members of the Europe Region WAGGGS offer programmes in a girls-only
environment or in a co-educational setting depending on the needs
of young people in their country. In the Europe region there are
merged Associations which have both Girl Guides and Boy Scouts as
members and also WAGGGS-only Associations, several of which have
boys in Guiding.
Member Organisations of the Europe Region have become involved in
a range of activities reflecting the principles, aims and objectives
of Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting. Here are just some examples:
- In Belarus, the Association of Belarussian Guides has developed
programmes to educate girls and young women on health issues,
including reproductive health
- In France, LAssociation des Eclaireuses et Eclaireurs
de France has been helping the introduction of young refugees
into French society, by organising summer camps and other intercultural
activities.
- In Switzerland, the Mouvement Scout de Suisse has developed
a Landmines Education Kit, which includes games and educational
material to raise awareness about the dangers of landmines.
The Europe Region WAGGGS has also developed links with the European
institutions, representing the interests of its members, working
with several organisations to influence and contribute to issues
affecting young people living in Europe today.
The Europe Region WAGGGS has consultative status with the Council
of Europe, is actively involved in the work of its Youth and Sports
Directorate, attends consultations with the European Commission
and other institutions of the European Union and is also an active
member of the European Youth Forum. The Region is represented in
these organisations by a number of young women, who follow issues,
attend meetings and contribute to the position of the Europe Region.
The Europe Region WAGGGS also works closely with the European Scout
Region.
